All wheels are machine built on to Hope’s New Pro 5, 32 hole Hubs using Sapim J bend spokes and then hand finished for a stronger build in Hope's factory, here in the UK.
The Fortus range offers wheels for all mountain biking applications and are available in 26”, 27.5” (650b) and 29” diameters and in 4 rim width options:
- 23W - 23mm internal width optimised rim profile suitable for 2.0” - 2.35” tyres
- 26W - 26mm internal width optimised rim profile suitable for 2.25” - 2.5” tyres
- 30W - 30mm internal width optimised rim profile suitable for 2.4” - 2.8” tyres
- 35W - 35mm internal width optimised rim profile suitable for 2.5" - 3.0” tyres, as well as 27.5+
The 30W also has a lighter, single cavity option available
A note on rim widths
Wider rims will ‘open up’ your existing tyres, effectively increasing the width or possibly allowing you to run wider tyres altogether, so we recommend checking the available clearance of you forks and frame to make sure they have suitable tyre clearance.
A note on hub widths
Hope wheels are fitted with the excellent Pro 4 hubs which come in a variety of widths to suit almost all current ‘standards’ and also have a range of conversion kits available making the wheels easy to adapt to most configurations. Check your frame width and axle type before ordering.
- 135/142mm option comes with 135mm Quick Release and 142mm x 12mm converters
- 148mm option is specific for 148mm x 12mm Boost frames
- 150/157mm option comes with 150mm x 12mm and 157mm x 12mm Super Boost converters.
- 150/157mm DH* option comes with 150mm x 12mm and 157mm x 12mm Super Boost converters. *Please note that 150mm DH hubs are only suitable for 7 speed downhill specific cassettes.
- Single Speed/Trials - 135 x 10mm Bolt in to suit standard dropouts. 6 speed steel freehub body (spacers included to convert to single speed)
Which Freehub Body type do I need?
HG from Shimano stands for Hyperglide and was the industry standard for cassette fitment pretty much since it’s launch in the late 1980s. Generally, HG freehub bodies can accommodate cassettes from 7 speed (although a spacer is required) up to 12 speed, although we recommend double checking the fitment of your 12 speed cassette as there are some newer freehub bodies to consider when we are talking about 12 speed.
With the introduction of dedicated 1x systems ie no front gears, to get the most out of the available gear range, a 10 tooth top cog was necessary in order to give a workable gear range. This is something that Shimano HG can’t accommodate so if your current cassette has a 10 tooth cog it will either be Shimano Microspline or SRAM XD which were introduced to solve this problem. It wouldn’t be the bike industry though if there wasn’t a little hair in the grease as some early SRAM 11 speed cassettes also used the SRAM XD freehub body standard. Campagnolo cassettes also used their own standard but are much less common than Shimano or SRAM.
